April 3rd- Day Three-Elegy to my Grandma (Nani)

The delicate taste of spinach curry
The mystical pathways of Murree
The stories of Karnal and migration
The poety, the songs and the oration
Each attribute ingrained in my memory
Like a great historical documentary

.

And then the stroke that paralyzed you for over a decade
The endless battle to survive that felt like a the Crusade
The struggle to tell your stories, to speak words clearly
To live, to love, to love life again and love it dearly
As I saw you slowly fade away in the night
It was a good fight! It was a good fight!

.

Although you are dead and gone now, my dear
The magic of your words can never disappear
In my heart there is a corner of reflection
This is where I hold you with much affection
This is where I retreat to feel a childhood connection
This is where you continue to live on in all perfection

………………………………………………………………………………………….

Today’s challenge was to write an elegy – a poem that mourns or honors someone dead or something gone by. It needed to be centered around an unusual fact about the person or thing being mourned.
